May 7, 2010 by Aubry
Ann Supple Massey and her team of estheticians and makeup artists at rouge cosmetics won’t recommend anything to their customers that they don’t love themselves. From their Salem location, which “glows pink,” Ann brings Boston-area residents the best in cosmetics. Whether you CRAVE long, lovely and elegant lashes for you wedding day, luscious lips for your night on the town with the girls, or some sweet, smooth skin, rouge is your go-to source.

Best of Boston 2009
After months of dining, shopping,
and advice-seeking our way across
the Hub, it's here: your annual guide
to the finest our city has to offer.
North End to South Shore, East Boston to MetroWest. We made a lot of stops in our hunt for the finest of everything the Hub has to offer, an annual quest that we took in a whole new direction this year (see "How We Did It". And now, 12 months, hundreds of miles, and about a gazillion calories later, our Best of Boston journey has finally ended. Yours, however, is just getting started
"Beauty junkies can spend years perfect-ing their primping arsenals. If you’d prefer to skip beta-testing your makeup bag, though, let Rouge founder Ann Supple Massey do the work for you. A former cosmetics buyer for Filene’s, Massey vets every product with her staff, choosing only those deemed both innovative and effective. That makes for an appealing mix of old favorites (Nars, B. Kamins) and up-and-comers like Caudalie. Those who suffer from Overstimulation at Sephora will appreciate Rouge’s manageable inventory and elegant Interior, while cosmoholics love the staff’s Exhaustive knowledge and occasional in-store appearances by beauty luminary Paula Dorf."

Rouge Makeup Artist, Andrea Ducharme, is chosen as one of Boston’s top 5 makeup artists by Fashion Boston April 2009 "It's not just a coincidence that "Ducharme" translates to "of charm" in French: The effervescent Andrea Ducharme has brought her 15 years of experience to giving women flawless complexions and perfectly tinted lips. A former representative for MAC Cosmetics, Trish McEvoy, Clinique, and Estee Lauder, the bubbly brush wielder has trained makeup artists a cross the city to embrace her many tricks - which include perfectly defined eyes and just the right amount of lip color."

Rouge Wins BONS Award (Best of the North Shore) for Best Cosmetic Store
"Sure, Rouge is pretty in pink but it's so much more than a boutique to buy cosmetics. The staff will help you select products that are good for you. Great lines for skin and make-up like Darphin, Caudelie and Paula Dorf." -
So, I RAVED about ROUGE. Now for the big reveal of their exclusive line, Model Co.
Elle McPherson is the famous face for the brand and though the products will most likely not make you look like her, they may just bring you one step closer! Products range from airbrush tans to brow gels with actual fibers that resemble small hairs in it, for those of us with thinning brows.
Check out some of the other unreal ideas that Model Co. has come up with. All can be found at Rouge in Salem!

How Far Will You Go For Beauty? Posted on July 2, 2008
If the looks from the street alone aren't sweet enough to get you to step into ROUGE, then well, maybe you should reconnect with your girly side. Driving by, this place looks like a little piece of heaven and when you go inside, you realize it just may be. At the very least, I had stumbled upon a makeup lover's paradise.
ROUGE hosts everything from your common favorites, like Nars and Paula Dorf to exclusive names like Australian-based Model Co (which I am writing an entirely separate post on because there are so many unbelievable products in their line that they don't fit in just one).
As if having in house makeup artists isn't enough, they also offer "Girls Night Out" parties, so bring your friends! I had the pleasure of meeting 2 of their resident artists (Marlo & Manda), as well as the owner (Ann Massey), and they could not have been friendlier or more helpful. They know their products!
Yes, Salem is a bit of a hike from Boston. And yes, I am also weary of the witches. But brave the commute and the monsters, and I promise you will not be disappointed.
